Employee Safety Committee
September 28th, 2011
Newtown Municipal Center
In attendance: Carole Ross, Chairman, Linda Omasta, Linda Bradley-Gillette, Rob Sibley, Arlene Miles, Bill Halstead, Joe Tani and Marion Chamberlain from CIRMA.
Mrs. Ross opened the meeting at 10:00am.
Review of injury reports: This quarter 15 accidents were reported. A discussion took place regarding the various reports and if there was preventive policies in place which could have prevented them. The number of accidents reported has increased with quite a number of them being attributed to Hurricane Irene. There were quite a few back sprains.
Training: Ms. Chamberlain will produce a cost allocation report to let us know what the injuries are so that we can concentrate on training in those areas.
Ms. Ross will ask the Department Heads to provide records of training for each committee meeting in order to get more information about which issues need to be addressed. Ms. Omasta stated that with this information and the allocation report, we could begin a campaign for the Town with reduction to injuries as our focus. If the employees are constantly reminded to use proper safety measures, we could possibly lower our risk of injury.
The next meeting will be held on December 7th at the Senior Center for inspection of that building. 7
